How to Match Your Can-Am Defender Crew Factory Tint — DIY Guide

Why Factory Tint Matching Matters on the Defender Crew

The 2022.5 and newer Can-Am Defender Crew comes from the factory with darker rear glass. If you add aftermarket tint to just the front windows without matching the rear, you get a cab that looks inconsistent — dark in the back, lighter in the front. The factory match approach solves this. Here's how to do it yourself.

What Shade Is the Factory Rear Glass?

The Defender Crew rear factory glass comes in around 35% visible light transmission (VLT). That means 35% of light passes through. Applying 35% aftermarket film to the front door windows gives you front glass that transmits approximately the same amount of light as the factory rear — a seamless, matched look across the whole cab.

What You Need for the Match Kit Install

The Front Window Tint Match Kit from UTVwindowtint.com includes two pre-cut pieces — one for each front door window on the Defender Crew. Tools needed: a spray bottle with soapy water, a squeegee or hard card, and a microfiber cloth. That's it. The front door windows on the Defender Crew are nearly flat and have a simple shape — this is about as easy as window tint gets.

Step-by-Step: Installing the Match Kit

Start by cleaning both front door windows with soap and water, then IPA. Spray the glass with soapy water. Peel the liner from your first pre-cut piece while spraying the adhesive side with soapy water to prevent it sticking to itself. Apply to the wet glass and slide into position. Squeegee from the center outward to remove water. Repeat on the second door. The install takes about 20 minutes total for both windows.

Which Film Should You Choose?

The Match Kit is available in Carbon, Ceramic, and APEX Ceramic. The shade is fixed at 35% for all three — that's what creates the factory match look. The film choice affects heat rejection and UV protection, not shade.

Carbon — Best value. 35-60% heat rejection. Great for most climates.

Ceramic — 80-83% heat rejection. Noticeable difference on hot days.

APEX Ceramic — 94.5-96% heat rejection. Maximum cab comfort.

The Result: A Factory-Finished Look

When done right, the factory match install is completely seamless. Someone who didn't watch you put the kit on wouldn't know it wasn't factory tinted. The cab looks intentional — all four windows at a consistent shade, front matching rear. It's one of the cleanest looking upgrades you can do to a Defender Crew without touching the body work.
